Officer of the Month

Detective Gedeus Frederick

Detective Gedeus FrederickThe North Miami Police Department's "Officer of the Month" for December 2025 is Detective Gedeus Frederick. Detective Frederick is currently assigned to the Investigations Division. He is being recognized for his outstanding performance during the following incident:

On Sunday, December 7, 2025, Detective Frederick was called out to investigate a Robbery with a Firearm at the CVS Pharmacy located at 73 5 NW 119th Street. The suspect brandished a firearm and fled with approximately $350. While on scene, Detective Frederick immediately recognized similarities between this incident and a robbery being investigated by the Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office (MDSO). He demonstrated keen investigative insight and situational awareness by recognizing the incident as part of a serial pattern involving an offender targeting commercial businesses.

Acting swiftly and proactively, Detective Frederick contacted the MDSO Robbery Unit and confirmed that a similar robbery had occurred at a nearby Walgreens on December 5, 2025, involving the same method of operation. He coordinated the rapid exchange of investigative intelligence and photographic evidence, establishing a critical nexus between the cases and laying the foundation for a unified multiagency investigation.

On Monday, December 8, 2025, Detective Frederick responded to another Robbery with a Firearm at 7-Eleven located across the street from CVS at 1190 l NW 7th Avenue. Once again, the suspect employed identical tactics. Detective Frederick continued to serve as a central point of coordination, sharing real-time intelligence with MDSO and ensuring continuity between the agencies.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Detective Frederick learned of additional robberies committed by the same suspect in Miami-Dade County and the City of Hollywood. Demonstrating extraordinary dedication, he returned to the 7-Eleven to personally review and obtain additional surveillance footage. From this effort, he developed a clearer suspect image, prepared photo lineups for both North Miami cases, and presented them to the victims. Both victims positively identified the suspect. Detective Frederick then authored a Probable Cause Message and Probable Cause to Arrest flyer, enabling federal adoption of the case under the Hobbs Act.

As a direct result of Detective Frederick's relentless investigative efforts and seamless collaboration with the MDSO Robbery Unit and the FBI Task Force, the suspect was placed under surveillance and apprehended on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. During the arrest, the suspect dropped a loaded gun magazine while exiting a vehicle. A subsequent search warrant resulted in the recovery of clothing worn during the offenses, and the suspect later confessed to five robberies. The suspect was federally charged with Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon, with no bond, and the robbery cases are proceeding toward federal indictment under the Hobbs Act.

Detective Frederick's investigative prowess in digital enhancement proved to be the critical breakthrough that opened the case, as partnering agencies lacked a clear image or any viable suspect identification. His actions exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement professionalism. Detective Frederick's investigative acumen, persistence, and leadership were instrumental in the swift removal of a violent offender from the community. His work not only solved multiple violent crimes but also strengthened interagency partnerships and demonstrated the effectiveness of proactive, intelligence-driven policing.
