October 2025
Officer of the Month
Officer Nickerline Montina
The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month” for October
2025 is Officer Nickerline Montina. Officer Montina is currently assigned
to the Traffic Safety Unit. She is being recognized for her exemplary display
of Empathy during the following incident:
During a routine traffic stop on October 7, 2025, Officer Montina observed a small child— no more than two years old—unrestrained in the back seat of a vehicle. When she spoke with the driver, he explained, with visible embarrassment, that he could not afford a car seat and had no one to assist him. In that moment, Officer Montina faced a choice: issue a citation or make a meaningful, positive impact.
Guided by compassion, she chose the latter. Without hesitation, Officer Montina drove to a nearby Walmart, purchased a brand-new car seat with her own money, and returned to the scene. She didn’t simply drop it off; she helped install the seat properly and ensured the child was safely secured before allowing them to leave.
This single act of kindness prevented a potential tragedy and exemplified the true spirit of community policing. Officer Montina demonstrated that genuine service extends beyond enforcement—it's rooted in human connection, empathy, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
Her actions not only safeguarded a child’s life but also strengthened trust between the North Miami Police Department and the community we proudly serve. Officer Montina’s compassion reflects our Department’s core values—especially Empathy—and stands as an inspiring example for all of us to follow.
