Neat Streets Miami is a County-wide street tree program. Neat streets annually awards various organizations matching grants to advance the Million Trees Miami initiative, a community-wide effort to achieve a 30 percent tree canopy for Miami-Dade County. North Miami has been receiving this grant annually since 2015.
In an effort to expand Miami-Dade County’s tree canopy by leveraging local resources, Neat Streets Miami-Dade County awarded the City of North Miami a street tree matching grant for its 2023-2024 Neat Street Project in the amount of $40,250. As part of this project, the City of North Miami will plant 115 trees of different species, including Live Oak (42), Paradise Tree (30), Gumbo Limbo (16), Dahoon Holly (12), Wild Tamarind (15). Please be aware that these trees were selected many months ago and have already been approved by Miami-Dade County, so no substitutions can be made at this time. The trees are to provide shade and beautify the community. All the trees are native and are adapted to the South Florida climate. Native trees require much lower maintenance in the long term, may reduce stormwater runoff, and provide shade for many years.
