The City of North Miami invites members of the community to the 2024 Induction Ceremony, celebrating the elections of Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D.; Councilman Kevin A. Burns, District 1; Councilman Pierre Frantz Charles, M.Ed., District 4; and the re-election of Vanessa Joseph, Esq., Elected City Clerk.
This event will take place Monday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m., at the Florida International University, Roz and Cal Kovens Conference Center, 3000 NE 151st Street, North Miami, FL 33181. It is open to the public.
Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D., has the rare distinction of serving North Miami in all three elected capacities. He is a former Elected City Clerk and a former City Councilman who presently serves as North Miami’s Mayor. He was elected as City Clerk in 2009. Desulme was first elected to serve as North Miami’s District 4 Councilman in June 2015 and re-elected for a second term in May 2019. In December 2022, he was appointed as the City of North Miami’s Mayor.
Councilman Kevin A. Burns, District 1, is a dedicated public servant who previously served two terms as North Miami’s Mayor. Burns was first elected in May 2005, then re-elected in May 2007. During his tenure, his administration helped construct an agreement between the City of North Miami and the Miami-Dade County School Board that brought four new public schools to North Miami by 2010.
In January 2023, Councilman Pierre Frantz Charles, M.Ed., District 4, was appointed by the North Miami City Council to serve as the City’s District 4 Councilman. Prior to his appointment, he spent many years as a community organizer focused on enhancing local resources. In his professional life, Charles is a public-school mathematics teacher dedicated to expanding educational opportunities.
Elected City Clerk Vanessa Joseph, Esq., was first elected as City Clerk in May 2019. In the November 2024 General Election, she ran unopposed. As a passionate advocate for civic engagement and transparent governance, Joseph has worked to ensure residents have access to critical resources and services. As an attorney specializing in immigration law and public policy, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to empowering the North Miami community.
The City of North Miami’s 2024 Induction Ceremony is open to the community. Members of the general public may RSVP. Community receptions will immediately follow the Induction Ceremony. Community receptions details are available at www.NorthMiamiFL.gov/Celebrate.
