North Miami Hosts “Caribbean Connections: Awkward Dinner” in Celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month
NORTH MIAMI, FL (June 9, 2025)
The City of North Miami, in partnership with South Florida People of Color (SFPOC), will host “Caribbean Connections: Awkward Dinner,” on Wednesday, June 11, at 6 p.m., at the Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 770 NE 125th Street, North Miami, FL 33161.
This dinner event, which is a part of North Miami’s Caribbean American Heritage Month programming, invites guests to engage in an intimate, thought-provoking evening focused on the complexities of being Caribbean and Caribbean American in South Florida. Through guided conversation and shared dining, attendees will explore topics such as identity, generational differences, cultural pride, and the immigrant experience.
“Awkward Dinner” is designed to foster honest dialogue and build community connections across cultures and experiences. The event creates a space where meaningful conversations can unfold around the table in a welcoming environment.
Guests will also have the opportunity to view the current exhibition at MOCA, “The Maiden is the Warrior,” by artist Vickie Pierre. The installation reflects themes of heritage, femininity, and resilience inspired by Caribbean culture and the African diaspora.

This event is part of a month-long series of celebrations recognizing the contributions and cultural richness of the Caribbean American community in North Miami.
