North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme Hosts NoMi Evening of Honors to Recognize Influential Leaders

City of North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed. D., proudly presents the 9th Annual NoMi Evening of Honors, a signature event held in recognition of Black History Month, on Friday, Feb. 21, at the Joe Celestin Center, located at 1525 NW 135th Street, North Miami, FL 33167. 

This year’s Black History Month theme, "African Americans and Labor," highlights the importance of recognizing the invaluable contributions of African Americans to the labor movement, economic justice, and workforce development throughout history. The event will honor modern-day South Florida history makers and community builders for their profound contributions and lasting influence beyond their respective fields.

The 2025 honorees include:

Retha Boone-Fye
Senior Political Advisor, Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board 

The Honorable Dwight Bullard, former Florida State Senator
Senior Political Advisor, Florida Rising 

Rev. Richard P. Dunn II, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner
Pastor-Emeritus of Faith Community Baptist Church 

Felecia Hatcher
CEO, Black Ambition Opportunity, Inc. 

Linda Joseph
Director of Offense, Service Employees International Union 

G. Eric Knowles
President and CEO, Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce 

Jeffery W. Mitchell
International Representative, Transport Workers Union of America 

The event will be hosted by Kalyn James and will feature live musical performances, and a vibrant pop-up art display by Afrikin Foundation, Inc. 

“The NoMi Evening of Honors is more than just a recognition ceremony. It is a celebration of excellence, perseverance, and the unwavering commitment of those who dedicate their lives to uplifting our community,” said Desulme. “Each honoree has played a vital role in shaping South Florida’s landscape; and we are proud to recognize their achievements.” 

This annual event, held in the heart of Black History Month, serves as a moment of reflection, appreciation, and inspiration, shining a spotlight on those who continue to break barriers and create opportunities for all.
