North Miami Councilwoman to Host Information Session on Humanitarian Parole Program and Provide TPS Updates

February 8, 2023

Join Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe, MPA, for an information session on the Humanitarian Parole Program and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) updates on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 6-8 pm, at the North Miami Public Library, 835 NE 132 Street, North Miami, FL 33161. Guest speakers include North Miami City Clerk Vanessa Joseph, Esq.; Cassandra Suprin, Esq. Director, Family Defense Program for Americans for Immigrant Justice; and Nadine Gedeon, Esq., President of the Haitian Lawyers Association.

“Residents in North Miami have so many questions regarding the humanitarian parole program” stated North Miami Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe. "Upon leaving the meeting with Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, I decided to host an information session to bring our residents much needed relief and answers.”

On January 5, 2023, United States President Joe Biden announced he is expanding a program to accept up to 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela – along with a plan to expel as many migrants from those countries who circumvent US laws – as his administration confronts a surge of migrants at the southern border.

This is in addition to the recent TPS designations/extensions for 18-months for the following countries: Venezuela, Syria, Ethiopia, Haiti, Yemen, and Somalia.

On January 25, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security announced the process for registering or re-registering for TPS under Haiti’s extension. Registration process started January 26, 2023. After the presentation, attendees will have the chance to ask questions and voice their concerns on the subjects.
