The City of North Miami’s Mayor and Council Approves Pandemic Relief Funding for Residents and Business Owners

The City of North Miami’s Mayor and Council has approved a third round of federal CARES ACT Funding for North Miami’s small businesses and residents. Through the US Housing & Urban Development (HUD), the City of North Miami will award $574,192 in supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for grants to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The City will allocate these funds to:

  1. Meal Assistance ($150,000)
    Funds for experienced meal providers to address food insecurity by providing delivered meals to North Miami residents with low- or moderate-income, especially those that are in quarantine, the elderly, and those limited by social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus. Additionally, distribute food to residents via curbside and homebound delivery. 
  2. Mental Health Assistance ($20,000)
    Funds for experienced providers of mental health services for North Miami residents with low- or moderate-income impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. 
  3. Emergency Rental Assistance ($100,000)
    Funds for emergency rental assistance to low- or moderate-income residents affected by the pandemic due to lost or reduced wages through a program to be administered by the City’s Housing and Social Services Department. 
  4. Emergency Mortgage Assistance ($154,192)
    Funds for emergency mortgage assistance payment to low- or moderate-income residents affected by the pandemic due to lost or reduced wages. 
  5. Workforce and Business Initiative Assistance ($150,000)
    Funds will provide assistance to enable small businesses or microenterprises to invest and survive the mid and post coronavirus pandemic through working capital, technical assistance with digital tools, and workforce training to healthcare workers and technicians.
