Detective Brian Beccker

The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month” for March 2024 is Detective Brian Becker. Detective Becker is assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU). He is being recognized for his outstanding performance during the following incident:

On January 31st, 2024, at 10:37 am, a call of an armed robbery at the Chase Bank located at 850 NE 125 Street, was received. A Brinks armored truck employee was in the process of removing money from several ATMs inside the Chase Bank when a subject grabbed the Brinks employee’s large bank bag containing a large amount of currency. Witnesses advised the subject was armed with a firearm. The subject fled out of the bank with the bag filled with currency and ran into a residential neighborhood. The bank employees immediately called the police and provided a description of the robbery subject. North Miami uniform patrol units immediately responded along with members of the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU). 

Recognizing the inherent dangers and potential risks to public safety, Detective Becker and other detectives immediately started searching the area for the fleeing subject. Detective Becker promptly initiated a thorough search of the surrounding area, including garbage cans that were along the pathway where the subject was last seen. Detective Becker’s meticulous attention to detail ultimately led to the crucial discovery of the stolen currency, totaling $340,000.00, concealed within a garbage can. Based on his experience, he recognized that the subject had possibly concealed the money in the garbage can so that he could return later to retrieve the stolen money. Detective Becker’s years of undercover work and intuition saved the victim's institution from a significant financial loss and prevented this brazen criminal from profiting from his crime. Furthermore, his observation skills also uncovered vital evidence in the form of the subject’s discarded clothing, which was found behind a nearby house. The robbery subject was not located on this day, but Detective Becker’s crucial findings will provide valuable forensic evidence that will become instrumental in identifying and apprehending the subject during the ongoing investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
