Aluminum/Iron/Steel Fence Permit & Inspection Requirements

The following is required for any permits that include the installation for Aluminum, Iron or Steel fences that are not covered by a product approval.

It is the responsibility of the contractor of record to ensure all required inspections are called for:

  • Foundation

  • Electrical (if applicable)

  • Final

Notes

  • No Spikes or Spears allowed to top fence
  • Arches to not exceed approved height
  • All fences shall comply with the latest version of the Florida Building Code
  • Refer to the City of North Miami code section 5-901 thru 5-904 for additional information
  • Circle height of fence
  • Any variations from these criteria will require site specific engineering plans

Single Family Residential District

  • Fences may be up to 5 feet in height in the front yard. An articulation of an additional 1 foot is allowed for the architectural enhancement of gates and fence features along the front yard fence. Fence heights in the rear yard setback and along the back and side property lines are allowed to be 6 feet.

Commercial Districts

  • Maximum fence height is 6 feet

Industrial Districts

  • Maximum height allowed is 8 feet
  • Site specific engineering is required for any fence over 6 feet
