NORTH MIAMI NAMED A FINALIST FOR THE 2010 ALL-AMERICA CITY AWARD
4/23/2010
Congratulations North Miami for being named as a 2010 Finalist for the All America City Award.

The city of North Miami is proud to be selected as a finalist in the 2010 All-America City Award, hosted annually by the National Civic League. Each year, only ten cities are selected as All-America Cities, based on a strict qualification process. This year, twenty-seven finalists are vying for the award designation. Each finalist must demonstrate that their residents are actively engaged and that the community is dedicated to resolving issues through collaborative efforts. The criteria that the cities are judged upon include civic engagement and collaboration, inclusiveness, innovation and impact.

“We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our diverse community to the nation,” declared North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, “North Miami is an example of a true melting pot community, which demonstrates the foundation on which our great nation was built upon.”

North Miami chose to highlight the following initiatives as part of the All-America City application process:

• 2010 Census awareness efforts to increase North Miami’s participation in the census by striving to achieve a 100% count through a variety of community outreach strategies;

• The ACHIEVE (Action Communities for Health, Innovation and EnVironmental ChangE) initiative, a national program for which the City’s Parks and Recreation Department was selected as one of ten agencies throughout the nation to participate in the program, which aims to spur policy change toward the prevention of chronic childhood diseases and to ultimately create a healthier community; and,

• The implementation of youth outreach programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami. MOCA strives to make contemporary art accessible to diverse audiences, especially underserved populations, by exploring the art of our time.
