A self-motivated ‘work-aholic’, Russell Benford is a highly energetic leader who is results oriented and solution focused. He has been recognized for consensus building and for his open communication management style.
Work Experience
Russell Benford began his work as City Manager with the city of North Miami in January 2010. His professional experience includes sixteen years in government work, having held positions as the chief administrator for the City of West Park (in Broward County, Florida) from 2005-2010 and the Village of Hawthorn Woods (Illinois) from 2000-2005. Prior to that, he has a background in Planning and Neighborhood Services/Code compliance.
Education
Russell Benford earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College (OH), and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin where he concentrated in Public Administration and Management and was named a Woodrow Wilson Public Policy and International Studies Fellow. Mr. Benford completed his master’s thesis on Tax Increment Financing.
Professional Affiliations Russell is a member of the International City/County Management Association, the Florida City/County Management Association, the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, and the Urban League.
